Planning & Business Intelligence (PBI)The University operates in an increasingly complex internal and external environment. PBI sits at the centre of the University’s strategic planning and student load planning activities and provides university wide business intelligence systems and support covering all of the key corporate data sources. The department is a key resource to the senior management of the University, providing data, analysis and insights to measure institutional performance and support strategic decision making.PBI is headed by the Director, Planning & Business Intelligence and is structured into three sections: Strategic Planning, Analysis & Reporting, Load Planning & Program Development, and Business Intelligence.The Load Planning & Program Development team is headed by the Associate Director, Load Planning & Program Development. The team is responsible for oversight of the University’s funding agreement; Commonwealth Grant Scheme implementation; Federal Government estimates; student enrolment and income projections; domestic admissions monitoring and analysis; UQ program development strategy, analysis and pricing framework; and provision of support to academic units relation to program development and sustainability. The team is also responsible for ensuring the validity of data within the University Student System and for meeting the student-related reporting requirements of the Australian Government.The Strategic Planning, Analysis & Reporting group report to the Associate Director, Strategic Planning, Analysis and Reporting. Responsibilities within the section include oversight of the University’s strategic and operational planning; business intelligence reporting services, performance measurement frameworks; government policy and strategic information analysis; and external performance reporting, particularly in relation to teaching and learning metrics.The Business Intelligence Team is led by the Associate Director, Business Intelligence. This section is responsible for the business intelligence needs of the University. This includes the development and operation of a data warehouse, performance dashboards and related data reporting systems to enable the University community to access and analyse a wide range of data simply and efficiently.Further details can be found on the .About This OpportunityThe Senior Load and Program Analyst position is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised, creative, and analytical thinker to join a small team in helping schools and faculties develop business cases for new programs (degrees and short courses) at The University of Queensland. The role will also have specific responsibilities in supporting the load monitoring, admissions, and Federal Government reporting functions within PBI.Key responsibilities will include:
  • Design and undertake analysis using complex administrative and custom data sets to address business questions and support Executive decision making, particularly in relation to higher education policy, student load monitoring, admissions strategies, and Program development functions.
  • Prepare succinct briefings and presentations for management and others which identify and communicate key findings through visual representations of data, and include informed recommendations where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate/develop high level proficiency in the use of corporate tools such as Business Objects and Excel to design and build reports and dashboards which automate the dissemination of load, admissions, and Program-related analysis and data to the broad university community.
  • Implement and maintain sustainable governance and administrative processes to support University-wide load projection, admissions monitoring, and the strategic alignment and positioning of UQ programs.
  • Work closely with admissions and student teams within the Faculty of Medicine to develop a deep understanding of medical admissions processes and systems, and ensure the university achieves agreed targets defined across various agreements with the Australian Government and our partners in the Regional Medical Place initiative.
  • Work closely with the Student Fees Team to coordinate the annual tuition fee review process by preparing data, conducting market analysis, modelling, and drawing insights to provide recommendations to senior management. Additionally, develop deep understanding of the budgetary, administrative and other implications associated with pricing decisions.
  • Identify emerging data needs and work with the unit’s data warehouse systems analysts to incorporate new data sources/redevelop existing data sources by providing specifications and undertaking quality assurance checks.
  • Identify where there are gaps in data that are available in the University’s corporate systems and provide advice outlining the business process and system changes that are required to collect missing data.
  • Provide support across the Load Planning & Program Development team (including the Federal Government Reporting function) through the preparation of reports, ad hoc analysis, and information provision as required.
This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW Level 8.The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,975.08 - $122,176.31, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $127,500.84 - $142,946.29 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.About You
  • A degree or postgraduate qualification with substantial relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • High-level analytical skills, including the ability to
  • design analysis and apply rigorous logic to evaluate and interpret findings;
  • apply sound business judgement to improve processes and provide sustainable solutions;
  • develop and present advice that supports strategic decision making.
  • High-level skills in compiling, manipulating and analysing complex administrative datasets using reporting tools such as SAP BusinessObjects (or similar) and Excel.
  • Clear and succinct written and oral communication skills, including experience designing reports and/or dashboards to visualise and interpret data.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated effectiveness in communicating with diverse audiences within a large and complex organisation.
  • An excellent understanding of the environment and current issues in Australian higher education, particularly in relation to government policy, student demand, load monitoring and projection, and strategic issues in program development.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to independently set goals, develop priorities, meet timelines, and to manage multiple and diverse tasks effectively.
