Cannington
Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland as a FIFO operation, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

About the role
This role is a permanent 8:6 dayshift roster, FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville.
Cannington Mine is seeking applications for a Senior Metallurgist position. The role involves providing expert advice, analysing and benchmarking the performance of the production function across the value chain and identifying and implementing improvement initiatives that optimise value generation, enhance functional excellence, and support business objectives for continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy, key role responsibilities include but aren't limited to
- Supervise a small team of metallurgists, providing technical leadership and a commitment to working safely.
- Guide and develop production, operating, and capital expenditure forecasts and budgets.
- Guide and develop effective operating strategies to address performance gaps , and collaborate with Operations crews to maximise generated value.
- Draw upon knowledge and expertise to provide technical investigations and advice on operational or other issues to ensure safe, productive outcomes.
About You:
- Proven experience operating and optimising AG/SAG comminution and polymetallic froth flotation circuits.
- Experience developing and delivering metallurgical improvement projects and general project management skills.
- Ability and desire to coach and mentor other onsite Metallurgists and operations staff.
- The ability to work unsupervised, find solutions independently, and collaborate with others in a team setting.
- Previous exposure to Business improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma will be highly regarded.
- Proven experience in the application of data analytics and visualisation tools such as Power BI will be an added advantage.
Qualifications for this position are:
- Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy/ Chemical / Process Engineering or Similar
