The Senior Mine Planning Engineer will play a pivotal role in the strategic and tactical planning of the Eva Copper Mine Project and other open-cut mining operations. The role will be responsible for designing and optimizing mine plans that maximize efficiency, safety, profitability, and cost-effectiveness while ensuring compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement both strategic and tactical mine plans for the multiple open-cut projects.
- Utilize Deswick software and other relevant Mine Planning tools to create and optimize designs, pit layouts and schedules.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including geologists, geotechnical engineers, and environmental specialists, to ensure the alignment of mine plans with project objectives.
- Incorporate geological, geomet and geotechnical models to assess ore body characteristics and design excavation and drilling patterns and sequencing.
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with mining operations, ensuring health, safety and environmental protocols are adhered to.
- Monitor and evaluate mine production, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Prepare and present reports on Mine Planning activities to management and stakeholders.
- Utilize cost estimation techniques to provide accurate projections for budgeting and financial planning.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in Mine Planning to enhance operational efficiency.
- Participate in the development of the project's budget and cost estimation processes.
- Collaborate with and contribute experience and discussion within the broader Harmony SE Asia Mine Technical Services Group.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with Mining; equivalent combination of education and mine engineering experience also considered.
- Strong geological knowledge and geoscience software skills.
- Extensive experience in utilising appropriate Mine Planning, design and scheduling software packages, including Deswick, Whittle, Surpac and GIS software.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in short, medium and long-term planning.
- Previous experience in large metalliferous open pit, truck and shovel operations.
- Must be a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or ability to obtain.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas clearly.
This role will be based at our Brisbane office in Milton with regular travel to site in Cloncurry, QLD.
