Senior Mining Engineer

Sibanye-Stillwater Australia (SSWA), a subsidiary of Sibanye-Stillwater Limited (a multinational mining and metals processing group) is a leading mining, tailings management, and economic rehabilitation company. Our flagship asset is the Century Mine and Karumba Port in Queensland. Which stands as the largest tailings remining and processing operation in the Australian industry, with opportunities for the future return to hard rock mining of both open pit and underground deposits. 

We are also completing study work to support the restart of our brownfields development project, the Mt Lyell Copper Mine in Tasmania, which aims to produce copper, gold and pyrite via underground operations with a very small environmental footprint.

A rewarding opportunity currently exists for a Senior Mining Engineer to join our Sibanye-Stillwater Australia team covering both assets. A previous role was advertised late last year but due to a change in business requirements, the role is being readvertised.

This position will be offered as a remote role - WFH on a 5/2 roster with regular site visits to Century and Mt Lyell required. As a Senior Mining Engineer at Sibanye-Stillwater Australia, you will have the flexibility to work remotely (AEST business hours), from any location in Australia, leveraging your excellent communication and collaboration skills to build and maintain relationships with our dispersed team.

This is a diverse role that will see excellent exposure to open pit mining, underground mining, hydro mining, tailings reprocessing and rehabilitation activities. You will be responsible for the development and communication of various mine plans, and be it supporting operations or a study, you will provide technical leadership to extract value from our projects.

Accountabilities include:

• Delivering into the regional Planning Calendar short to medium term activities:
  • Lead the quarterly planning process as per the Group Planning Calendar.
  • Lead the MROR, LoA and Budget Plan process from a mine planning perspective.
  • Assist with the optimisation and implementation of the Progressive Rehabilitation and Mine Closure Plan (PRCP) at Century.
• Regularly visit site to ensure the engagement of the site team, achieve effective transfer of knowledge and provide technical support as required.
• Lead and/or participate in key growth studies and projects for the region.
• Continue to engage and develop appropriate resources, systems, and procedures to ensure operation and project requirements are met effectively.
• Assist in the development of a suitable mining cost model for incorporation into the site financial model, and then the corporate financial and financing models.
• Participate in group level projects.
• Participate in operational improvement projects for the region.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
• Be registered with Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), or any other appropriate professional body for the statutory reporting of Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves.

Experience:

• Excellent Deswik software skills and sound mine planning experience are essential, applicants without current Deswik experience will not be considered.
• Extensive experience in mine planning of underground and surface hard rock mining operations is essential.
• Experience in the development, delivery and operation of Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves.
• Broad knowledge of mining & mineral industry technologies, work processes, environments, customs and practices and norms.
• Sound knowledge of commercial, economic and business issues relating to the mining industry globally.
• A keen interest in the implementation of technology that has tangible benefits in the mining process.

• Must have permanent work rights in Australia with no restrictions.
• Hold a current and valid C class driver’s license.
