Job description

The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School.  The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the state, and is conveniently located in the central city, with easy access to all services and Hobart’s waterfront and inner suburbs.

The Department of Neurology at RHH is fully accredited for neurology training and provides management of an average of 20 neurology and stroke inpatients, plus serves a wide range of subspecialty clinics and neurophysiology services.  We provide a rewarding and supportive training environment, with regular protected teaching sessions and financially supported professional development.  Further information on the department is available here.

Note that prospective first and second year core advanced trainees in neurology need to apply for RHH positions through the match process co-ordinated by ANZAN – see information here.

The information and application links here are for an elective/fellowship year at RHH, in neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis and neuromuscular/neurophysiology.  This position includes multiple outpatient clinics and NCS/EMG sessions per week, aiming to achieve subspecialisation in these fields and level 2 NCS/EMG proficiency.

Further information on the RHH Neuroimmunology-Neuromuscular Fellowship-elective position is available here.

This position is well funded by the Commonwealth STP program and is for registrars completing physician training with the RACP in Australia.  It is therefore not available to overseas applicants seeking a single year of practice in Australia.

Salary

$131,000 - $183,500 per annum, pro rata + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging and relocation assistance.

Base salary per annum is dependent on experience (3rd year registrars would usually commence at a base of at least $144,000).

Please note the base salary package is also supplemented by an on-call allowance (8% of base salary), overtime rates and call back rates when on call. Further, the STP funding associated with this position includes a $25,000 rural loading, part of which can be used to fund outreach clinic visits and remaining funds can be used towards professional development and rental costs while in Hobart.
