What you'll be doing:
Apply today to be a part of the dynamic Inpatient Allied Health team in a permanent full time roll. This position will be located between Nepean & Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospitals.

Your role within Inpatient Allied Health Mental Health Services unit will see you provide discipline specific, recovery- oriented assessment and intervention for adult and older adult consumers affected by acute mental health issues and concerns admitted to the Blue Mountains District Hospital Mental Health Unit and the Nepean Hospital Mental Health Centre.  

The Senior Occupational Therapist will provide specialist occupational assessments and interventions focused on occupational participation, community connectedness and occupational roles, to inpatients of the Blue Mountains Mental Health Unit and Nepean Hospital Mental Health Unit as service needs. 

As a Senior Occupational Therapist, your role will provide: 
- Specialist occupational therapy service, including providing consultancy across NBMLHD mental health services.
- Clinical supervision for Level 1 – 2 Occupational Therapists
- Support for the Mental Health Professional Lead Occupational Therapist (Level 5)
- Clinical expertise, consultation and education to other health professionals in the multidisciplinary team
- Work autonomously with minimal direct supervision and using independent professional judgement

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection criteria to be addressed:

  1. Degree in occupational therapy with current occupational therapy registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. Substantial post graduate clinical experience providing occupational therapy services to adults with persistent and severe mental health problems. Demonstrated capabilities for recovery- oriented practice and high level of knowledge, skills, and clinical expertise for occupational therapy service provision in a mental health setting.
  3. Demonstrated experience in leadership, provision of clinical supervision, and experience in the supervision of undergraduate occupational therapy students.
  4. Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to manage a complex caseload with competing priorities.
  5. Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative, evidence- based individual and group interventions to support consumers with persistent and severe mental health problems.
  6. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and effective time management skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  8. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel
