The Role:
The purpose of this role is to lead and grow a team which provides outsourced payroll services to our clients. Our services are focused on fulfilling the needs of existing clients across our organisation and network, and to also expand delivery of these services to new potential clients.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Managing a portfolio of clients and overseeing the delivery of outsourced payroll and related services to new
and existing clients, primarily in relation to Award and Enterprise Agreement based payrolls
  • Undertaking and reviewing the tailoring of payroll platform rule sets to client requirements
  • Ensuring a thorough review of all payroll calculations is undertaken, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail are adhered to at all times and are delivered in a timely manner
  • Maintain and cultivate strong client relationships through direct liaison both virtually and in person, including liaising with clients on day to day matters, proactively identifying any potential to expand service offerings, and attending to or facilitating client query responses in the appropriate manner
  • Planning and managing payroll transitions or implementations from other providers or in-house teams where required
  • Facilitating compliance with current legislation such as superannuation, PAYG, terminations and state payroll
tax
  • Following and maintaining a consistent approach to payroll processing for all clients with a strong focus on
documentation for each client
  • Assisting in preparing proposals and undertaking pricing reviews
  • Ongoing liaison and development of payroll processes and software platform, including EH Payroll (formerly
KeyPay), and other internal and external systems supporting the delivery of services
  • Mentoring and training junior staff, including working with the other payroll services managers to develop,
maintain and review learning and development programs to enhance the teams existing skills and develop
specific areas as required or anticipated
  • Liaising with other specialty areas of the firm including HR consulting services, expatriate services, migration services, management accounting team and client services team to achieve compliance for clients
  • Adhere to all BDO vision, values, strategies and policies as well as demonstrating strong leadership and people management capabilities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Over 10 years’ payroll experience
  • Well-developed understanding of payroll principles and associated tax laws, especially in relation to Award and Enterprise Agreement based payrolls
  • Knowledge of privacy requirements especially in relation to personal data
  • Experience managing people and teams - organises time and resources to achieve aims, including resource
planning to accommodate anticipated future requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in project and change management, especially relating to development and
implementation of standardised processes and technology
  • Committed to delivering quality service and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Achieves successful outcomes through clear and effective written and verbal communication and the ability to collaborate with others
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability, achieves buy in
  • Is willing and driven, takes a proactive approach
Experience with software applications:
  • Solid payroll system experience, preferably with cloud based platforms including EH Payroll (formerly KeyPay)
  • Proficient in Microsoft office package
