This position is full-time permanent (part-time 4 days a week may be considered) located in our Albury Office NB remote work may be available for the right candidate.

About the Position

The Senior Payroll Specialist will focus on accurate and timely completion of the payroll function and associated tasks. This position will drive change, improve current processes and implement best practice in line with the strategic direction of the organisation. The position will ensure all relevant payroll data is accurate, compliant with relevant industrial instruments and prepared for processing on a fortnightly basis in a timely manner. The position involves:

  • Overseeing the fortnightly payroll for over 1400 employees working in a 24/7 environment
  • Ensure that there is timely and accurate preparation of all payroll data for processing, ensuring relevant statutory documentation and payments are completed (superannuation, payroll tax, Work Cover and PAYG etc)
  • Manage payroll systems to ensure that all information and records are up to date and maintained in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Support and/or lead projects and initiatives of KCS and provide subject matter expertise on matters relating to payroll legislation, award and contract interpretation, payroll practices, systems and system integrations where needed.
  • Identifying any discrepancies between system data (payroll, HR and Time and Attendance) and resolving any matters in a timely manner
  • Lead the development of systems and payroll processes with the payroll manager
  • The creation, documentation and maintenance of user guides and other training manuals relating to payroll systems and practices
  • Act as first point of contact for payroll queries and liaise with relevant departments to answer queries in appropriate timeframes
  • Assist with various projects relating to finance and payroll as required
  • Engage with various departments on payroll related matters such as HR, Workers Compensation/Return to Work and Systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position coordinating/processing payroll for a medium to large organisation
  • Previous experience using KeyPay is highly regarded
  • Comprehensive knowledge and ability to interpret Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements (4 active awards/agreements in operation at KCS)
  • Significant knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory environment for areas of business responsibility i.e. Superannuation, Workers Compensation, PAYG tax and other legislative agencies
  • Strong administration and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail and passion for delivering work to a high standard
  • Demonstrated drive and initiative, with a proactive approach to work with the ability to work collaboratively and co-ordinate information flows across multiple departments
  • Experience in working with and maintaining various platforms that rely on the same data
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Suite (Office Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Customer focused approach and resilient to changing environments
  • Strong communication style, verbal and written
  • Australian Drivers Licence
  • Ability to pass a National Criminal History Check
