Job description

The Opportunity

We are currently supplementing our existing pool of talented policy, planning and Project professionals for our FPAR team. The roles in our area undertake strategic Policy and/or planning work and associated projects that support the development and delivery of the state’s strategic vision for WA regional aviation, multi-modal freight supply chains and ports.

We are looking for pro-active problem solvers and critical thinkers with good strategic instincts. You will need to be able to cultivate and maintain high level relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate a better understanding, development, and implementation of complex strategic transport policy, planning and program initiatives.

Strong writing skills, the ability to conduct research and data analysis and the ability to present fit-for-purpose information to a variety of audiences are imperative for these roles. In return, we offer you the opportunity to work with a focused and enthusiastic team, supportive leadership, and career development opportunities.

For more information about the past and current projects within the FPAR team, please visit our websites:

Aviation (transport.wa.gov.au) and Freight/Ports (transport.wa.gov.au) or see the attached fact sheet.

We currently have the following position(s) available:

1x L6 Senior Policy and Project Officer – permanent

1x L6 Senior Policy and Project Officer – fixed term contract (available from 16 May 2024 – 30 June 2025), with possibility of permanency

1x L7 Policy and Project Manager – fixed term contract, with possibility of permanency

While we strongly encourage anyone with strategic Policy and planning experience to apply, for the L7 role in particular, we will welcome applications from those with a good understanding of and experience in dealing with land use planning matters.

For further information about the roles, we encourage you to review the attached Job Description Forms (JDFs) and contact Sue Hellyer, Director Freight, on 9216 8826.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) that arise within the next 12 months date of first appointment across the Department of Transport.

You can expect

·        A highly motivated and enthusiastic team and support from senior management.

·        The opportunity to fully utilise your expertise and develop your career within a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation.

·        Flexible working arrangements.

·        A competitive salary.

·        11% employer contributed superannuation.

·        Salary sacrifice options.

. Generous leave entitlements including 4 weeks’ annual leave, 3 public service holidays yearly and long service leave every 7 years.

In addition to rewarding work, we invite you to be Part of Something Real. Learn more about our commitment to you, here.

How to apply

The attached applicant information pack and job description form (JDF) will provide you with some useful information that may assist you with the preparation of your application.

We require you to only submit:

1.    A detailed CV that clearly outlines the skills and experience you have gained in relation to the job description; and

2.    A covering letter (maximum two (2) pages), outlining your relevant experience and what you can bring to this role. Please ensure you nominate in your application which level(s) you are applying for.
