Role Details
The Department for Child Protection is seeking a Senior Practitioner to join the Port Pirie office on a full-time term basis.
The role is responsible for:
- Enhancing Social Worker/ Case Management capacity and principles of social work practice by providing advice to DCP staff, mentoring and researching new techniques and methodologies.
- Undertaking regular reviews of cases to ensure that effective plans are in place and appropriate case management is occurring.
- Providing a specialist opinion or recommendation to support Youth Court processes and act as a witness in court proceedings in addition to assisting with the preparation of case conferences, assessments and reports.
- Contributing to the implementation of continuous quality improvement and policy development initiatives.

We are looking for a confident individual who has the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with people both within government, non-government sector and community.
To be successful you will be experienced in providing professional advice on social work/case management matters through coaching and mentoring of peers.
You will have knowledge of social work legislative framework including acts, regulations and social work/case management theories and methodologies that guide social work practice principles.
You will also have the ability to analyse complex problems and resolve matters that demonstrate reflective practice.

About the Business
The Department for Child Protection (DCP) plays a key role in the protection of children, young people and their families within South Australia. The department provides support to vulnerable children and young people to be safe, strong and connected.
The Region
Port Pirie is a seaport on the east coast of the Spencer Gulf, 223 km north of Adelaide and has a population of just over 17,000 people. The Council area includes the city of Port Pirie, a historically significant city and busy commercial regional centre, as well as the rural towns of Crystal Brook, Redhill, Koolunga, Wandearah, Mundoora, Napperby and Warnertown.
The Port Pirie office employs approximately 30 people and is one of five offices in the northern region. As a member of this team, you will work with other professionals to deliver child protection services to children and families in the local community of Port Pirie and surrounding areas.

Special Conditions
Essential Qualifications:
AHP: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
PO: Appropriate degree qualification in Community Services, Social Sciences, Human Services, Health or related field.
Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
