Job description

Nacap is at the forefront of constructing critical energy and resource infrastructure, playing a vital role in advancing Australia's energy transition. We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer with expertise in Oil and Gas pipeline projects.

This position encompasses roles based in our project office at Eight Mile Plains QLD and will require FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) project assignments in remote locations throughout Australia.

The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Construction Manager to ensure thorough oversight of both self-performed and subcontracted construction activities. Additionally, the candidate will mentor and guide engineering colleagues in their professional development. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all project objectives—including safety, environmental standards, land access, cultural heritage, cost control, and adherence to schedules—are met with the highest standards. Furthermore, the role demands skilful management of the unique challenges associated with remote project operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Approvals: Oversee the documentation for obtaining third-party approvals related to construction activities.
  • Client Engagement: Interpret client requirements and prepare technical documentation such as Technical Queries, Requests for Information, and Deviation Requests, liaising with Technical Authorities as needed.
  • Surveying and Data Analysis: Conduct surveys using various surveying instruments, such as total stations, GNSS receivers, drones for aerial survey and 3D mapping. Collect, analyse, and interpret survey data, including terrain, boundaries, structures, and other relevant information.
  • Pipeline Design and Supervision: Undertake onshore pipeline routing and perform pipeline design calculations using internal design methods and standards in accordance with project requirements. Generate crossing and special section drawing plan and profile drawings. Coordinate survey set out and supervise mainline bending activities.
  • Drawing and Documentation: Prepare, review, and verify as-built drawings and documentation ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Technical Estimation: Develop technical estimates for specific project scopes, aiming for cost efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively seek opportunities for continuous improvement in cost reduction and process efficiency.

Experience Required:

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Engineering (Engineering Construction, Civil or Mechanical).
  • Technical Experience: Strong technical proficiency in pipeline design, construction oversight, surveying technologies, and drone operations using industry standard applications and software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Trimble Business Centre, Global Mapper, MapInfo, ArchiCAD, Pix4d, Dji Terra).
  • Industry Experience: Extensive experience (8+ years) in Project Engineering within the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Proficiency: Expertise in regulatory documentation, client interaction, and a deep understanding of Australian Standards.
