This Senior Project Engineer role provides operational leadership and project management services as required in construction and maintenance of buildings, plant and equipment within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. The incumbent will possess a strong technical acumen in complex engineering systems, health and safety, project management, contract management, risk management and business continuity management.
BEMS sits within Facilities, Infrastructure and Support Services and provides planning, construction, operation and maintenance of all built infrastructure, complex engineering systems, plant and equipment to meet strategic objectives within a quality environment.

About the role
- Manage development and implementation of BEMS asset maintenance and sustaining capital projects by providing project and program management services and technical oversite throughout all stages of project delivery from design development through to construction. Conduct stakeholder meetings and complete periodic project status and dashboard reporting to inform upper management of project progress and risk identification.
- Provide authoritative, accurate specialist technical advice to support THHS capital infrastructure projects including technical oversite, design development advice, construction management advice, defect inspections and services isolations required to engineering services to minimise impacts to the operational health facility.
- Provide technical oversite of contractor and staff site works including compliance with THHS Safety Management System, permit to work assessment, outage coordination and internal/external audit support in order to minimise risk to TUH critical infrastructure and TUH Central Energy Facilities operations.
- Provide accurate and informed specialist advice to THHS BEMS senior management and to Service Group Representatives in line with relevant legislation, standards, policies and frameworks
- Prepare high-quality reports, submissions, briefing notes, business cases, documentation and correspondence as required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
- Ability to work autonomously to achieve desired outcomes
- Experience in managing complex engineering services and critical utilities supply continuity.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in engineering industry. Experience in healthcare engineering is desirable.
- Possession of a Degree in Engineering (Electrical / Electronic / Mechanical / Building/ Civil) from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent. (Mandatory)
- Obtain and maintain Membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
- Participate in the “ON-CALL” roster for the Engineering Department.
