On behalf of a leading Government owned regulation business we are seeking a Renewable Energy Engineer in the newly created department. This person will be primarily responsible for overseeing the design review, compliance and regulatory aspects of large-scale renewable energy projects, such as wind farms, solar farms, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitate early and proactive engagement with developers, proponents, and designers of renewable energy projects
- Offer guidance on regulatory compliance within legislation to ensure adherence from the project conception phase
- Conduct regular compliance monitoring and auditing activities to ensure ongoing adherence to industry regulations and standards
- Identify areas of non-compliance and collaborate with project stakeholders to implement corrective actions
- Respond to and investigate politically sensitive incidents and complaints related to renewable energy facilities
- Review and accept management plans submitted by project developers, ensuring they align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Develop guidelines for both internal and external use to establish best practices for consistent regulatory compliance in the renewable energy sector
- Provide expert technical advice in protection and controls as well as renewable energy technologies to support regulatory decision-making processes
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Advanced degree and qualifications preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience within the energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy projects on a utility scale
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks, standards, and legislation applicable to renewable energy facilities
- Proven experience in incident response, investigation, and resolution, preferably in a politically sensitive environment
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and technical documentation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Relevant certifications or training in renewable energy and regulatory compliance are desirable
