Senior Research AssociateThe Kirby Institute

  • Employment Type: Full-time (35 hour week)
  • Duration: 12 month fixed term contract (possibility of extension)
  • Remuneration: $119,440 - $140,801 + 17% Super and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid working, work from home and from UNSW Sydney campus)
  • Full Australian working rights required for the duration of the contract

Why Your Role Matters:

As a Senior Research Associate, you will coordinate and manage surveillance activities with people who inject drugs. The primary function of this position is to develop, implement and evaluate surveillance activities, including the Australian Needle and Syringe Program Survey (ANSPS), the National Needle and Syringe Program Minimum Data Set (NSP MDS) and the NSW Needle and Syringe Program Enhanced Data Collection (NNEDC). The position will involve consultation and liaison with national, State and Territory government health departments, public health professionals, service providers, researchers and affected communities, as well as interaction with other Kirby Institute programs.

The role reports to Professor Lisa Maher and has no direct reports.

Who You Are:

  • A Masters or PhD in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics or a similar relevant field related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in data management and quantitative analysis of large datasets with statistical analysis packages (e.g., SAS, STATA).
  • Knowledge of infectious disease control and harm reduction programmes, including Australia’s national blood-borne virus strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of Needle Syringe Programs
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
