Hybrid position
NAL is seeking a Senior Researcher or postdoctoral fellow to join us on a fixed term 2 year opportunity, to be a key member of the Communication Sciences Department & act as a project lead on all research projects in the area of Paediatric hearing loss, all in support of NAL’s Mission, Strategic Objectives & Competencies. The ideal candidate will provide intellectual leadership, commensurate with experience, in Paediatric hearing loss research . They will be expected to apply their research expertise in audiological, hearing science and/or speech/language sciences, leading to new scientific knowledge, potential impact on clinical services and health policy at a national and international level, and potential impact on companies producing hearing devices and technologies.
The postholder will have a recognized track record of research expertise at a national level or be well-placed to develop one, and be able to use a variety of experimental, quantitative and/or qualitative methods to achieve project goals independently or in collaboration with a multidisplinary team at NAL.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
Lead and participate in initiating, designing, planning and executing research projects on Paediatric hearing loss in accordance with NAL project procedures
Analyze and interpret data, and support other staff in data analysis and interpretation
Disseminate research findings through high-quality publication in international peer-reviewed journals and trade journals, and presentations at relevant conferences, as both lead author and co-author
Identify, develop and maintain relationships and collaborations within the hearing research and audiology communities and other sectors (e.g. hearing industry, academia) that are consistent with NAL’s goals
Maintain hearing and audiological science expertise and keep abreast of new developments relevant to NAL’s objectives and develop opportunities for integrating new scientific ideas into NAL
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
Knowledge in conducting one of more of audiological/ hearing, speech language, or cognition research studies in children with and/or without hearing loss
Significant knowledge and/or knowledge of at least one of key areas in Paediatric hearing loss research, such as: audiological, speech and language outcomes selection and measurement, interpretation and outcomes prediction, evaluation of hearing devices and technologies, and development and/or evaluation of diagnostic tools
Significant knowledge of the audiology, hearing and/or language and cognitive research literature and methodologies
Ability to develop new ideas, and plan and execute research projects
Skills in data management and manipulation
Statistical?analysis
Expertise or experience in EEG and/or fNIRS or other physiological methods desired but not mandatory
Significant experience designing and applying a variety of different?research designs
Ph.D. in relevant scientific discipline within or related to audiological or hearing research is desired but not mandatory
Track record of peer-reviewed publications and/or independent or collaborative research are desired but not mandatory
We will require the successful candidate to be willing to have a Police Check conducted (we pay) and must have rights to work in Australia.
