The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53.000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.

Merchant Technology Engineering sits within the Payments Service Utility (PSU), which brings together the people, process and technology assets supporting merchant acquiring (including terminal technology), bulk electronic payments, high value and international payments processing for CBA. The team have the monumental task of ensuring that 40% of the Australian economy are able to transact over $90 billion a day using the Bank's services in a reliable manner. With the payments technology systems being at the heart of the Bank, almost every customer-facing channel relies on payments services in one way or another.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be doing hands-on coding and be responsible for shaping the technical evolution of this system by contributing to end-to-end design, implementation, and delivery. You'll utilise advanced knowledge of Software Engineering principles and practices to achieve business outcomes, draw on core technology and domain knowledge to lead the design, enhancement and maintenance of a technology solution. You'll also be invited to join our regular engineering guilds to provide technical guidance and mentoring to our junior members of the team.

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

  • Knowledge of payment terminals and concepts - Australian payments industry, security requirements for payment transactions, AS2805, ISO8583 and EMV standards.
  • Proficient in C/C++
  • Working with a terminal management system
  • Experience with providing work estimation
  • Tools - Jira, Confluence, TeamCity, Ingedev, GitHub and GitHub Actions
  • Preferably, knowledge about Linkly protocol for integrated terminals
  • Familiar with agile methodologies
