The Metro Tunnel is moving Melbourne into the future and transforming our rail network. It will allow us to run more frequent, reliable services, connecting people and places. By taking our busiest train lines through the new tunnel under the city, the Metro Tunnel will free up space in the City Loop to run more trains to and from the suburbs. This will enable over half a million additional passengers per week to travel across Melbourne's train network.

We achieve this through face-to-face interactions by our frontline teams, supported by our safety operations, operational readiness and network performance teams.
About the role
Metro Trains Melbourne's Passenger Services Team has opportunities for customer service-focused individuals to join our team in the role of Senior Station Officer, in a Part-Time Relief capacity. In this role, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the safe operations of the station. You will perform control desk duties for the Metro Tunnel. You will maintain safety critical communications with key stakeholders, liaise with train drivers and station staff to manage on-time train running and address safety and operational matters.
In the absence of Station Masters, you will also be required to take on the responsibility of being the Officer in Charge to ensure passenger safety and seamless operations. As a reliever, will work across multiple Stations depending on business needs, providing an opportunity to work with varying teams within the work group.
This is a permanent part-Time Relief role with a minimum of 50 hours a fortnight (opportunity for overtime based on operational needs).
Metro will provide full paid training for your accreditation in Cert III - Rail and Customer Service () delivered by Metro Academy.

Please note: If you do not attain a position within one of the five new stations, your application may be considered for other locations throughout the network.
Role Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Perform station opening and closing procedures
Complete regular checks of the station equipment including all keys, iPad, station two-way radio and parking passes
Maintain an awareness of staff, contractor and visitor movements throughout the station whilst ensuring station security measures are adhered to
Contribute to the management of all planned occupations i.e. ensuring posters are displayed correctly and timely announcements
Perform and assist in control room duties in order to monitor the safety and security of passengers and station property
Act as Officer in Charge in the absence of Station Masters and report all incidents and issues
Monitor passenger flow, escalators, lifts, and entry/exit points
Maintain safety critical communications with Metrol (central control centre), and other parties
Identify and respond to any safety or security concerns or suspicious activity
Provide clear and precise announcements over the public address system to ensure up to date information is provided to passengers i.e., for timetabling, service alteration and disruptions
Support the implementation of emergency procedures
Have the flexibility to work shifts and staff stations during train operational hours (trains run 24 hours on weekends)
About you
We are seeking candidates who meet the below key selection criteria:
Demonstrated customer service knowledge and experience
Can communicate clearly and professionally using safety critical communications to a range of stakeholders
Able to work effectively in a diverse team
Able to demonstrate a safety focus, and willingness to promote a safe working culture
Can multitask and resolve issues under demanding situations to make quick and accurate decisions
Demonstrates resilience to work independently and manage the station during shifts
Ability to operate a control desk or experience operating in a similar setting is preferable
Previous experience in managing a team on shift and/or completion of leadership and management training is highly regarded.
You must be available to work on a seven-day rotating roster, including weekend night shifts, to support our 24/7 service delivery. Please note that due to the nature of the work there are late and early shifts that commence outside of public transport hours.
