About the Role:

The main goal of this position is to provide specialist Statutory Planning advice to ensure compliance with NSW planning legislation is crucial in delivering infrastructure projects

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality advice, reports, briefings and analysis on state and local government planning policies, regulations and legislation affecting the delivery of construction infrastructure.
  • Prepare briefs and responses to correspondence and enquiries relating to the policy and procedures impacting on the physical assets owned and operated by the department, procuring and managing external specialist contractors as necessary.
  • Assess the impact of development applications by third parties on departmental assets and operations and provide advice to internal stakeholders and prepare submissions to state and local government.
  • Assist Project Directors and Asset Management Directors in managing the state and local government development approval processes, which includes reviewing consultant approaches; consultant prepared development applications for compliance with planning requirements; attending pre-DA meetings; mediation meetings; and negotiating appropriate conditions of consent.
  • Provide advice on various aspects of statutory and strategic planning requirements to internal and external customers to assist in their understanding of the approval processes.
  • Assist in the provision of planning information services to internal stakeholders and participate on departmental and interagency committees and working parties.
  • Assist in improving the NSW Planning System process, meeting performance standards, embracing continuous improvement and achieving a high level of customer service and build productive and strong working relationships with external agencies and internal stakeholders, actively contributing and sharing technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Contribute to the overall master planning process for Infrastructure Planning projects as part of the planning team
About You: 
  • Previous local or state government experience.
  • Experience in managing the development approval process for school infrastructure projects, including reviewing development applications, attending meetings, and negotiating conditions of consent.
  • Candidates should have a strong background in Statutory Planning, including a comprehensive understanding of state and local government planning policies, regulations, and legislation relevant to infrastructure projects in NSW.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in urban and regional planning and/or relevant experience of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and other relevant legislation as it effects land use and property development including licences, subdivision, rezoning and construction.
