About This Opportunity 

The primary purpose of the Senior Student Administration Officer is to manage the more complex Student Administration responsibilities within the Faculty’s Academic Services team and plays a key role in the effective management of students that are experiencing circumstances which impact their academic progression.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide advice and support to relevant decision makers on student matters and related student appeals and grievances.

  • Undertake investigations, prepare documentation, produce written correspondence and provide relevant information and recommendations within the framework of University rules, policies and procedures.

  • Provide high level administrative assistance to the Associate Dean (Academic) to effectively manage routine and complex student cases ensuring all student related decisions are applied consistently and recorded accurately in accordance with University policy.

  • Undertake administrative tasks for a range of Student Administration activities across domestic and international, undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including admission, credit, progression, graduation, and cross institutional study.

  • Mentor and provide training to staff within the Student Support team.

  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of student related University rules, policies, procedures and provide written and oral advice to students and Faculty and School staff as required.

  • Assist with coordinating the Faculty’s processes for managing Progression Interventions and Progression Alerts, as well as students requiring reasonable adjustments, including working collaboratively with Faculty and School staff to integrate assistance and support services.

  • Oversee the Faculty administrative processes for supplementary assessment, amendments to results and assessment re-mark requests.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of plans and procedures for student related administrative processes.

  • Ensure details required for Government reporting are completed in accordance with statutory and policy requirements.

  • Participate in Faculty and University working groups as an active member contributing to discussions.

  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

This is a full-time (100%), continuing.

At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099.39 - $94,512.08, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076.28 - $110,579.13 annually.  As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You  
  • A relevant undergraduate degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience in Student Administration; or an equivalent combination.

  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills including the ability to provide advice, negotiate, collaborate and liaise with a wide range of clients and stakeholders including student and senior staff.

  • Demonstrated specialist knowledge of University Rules, Policies and Procedures, deadlines and services relating to student matters or a capacity to rapidly gain such knowledge.

  • Proven strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and ensure that deadlines are met whilst demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work co-operatively and supportively as a member of a team.

  • A strong orientation to the provision of a high level of customer service.

  • Demonstrated competence in the conduct of administrative duties, including the ability to be proactive in reviewing work practices and updating procedures and processes where required.

  • Ability to use sound judgement and sensitivity when assessing situations and diplomatic skills when resolving problems and facilitating outcomes.
