About the role
As a Senior Sustainability Officer, you will support, drive and deliver National Intermodal sustainability initiatives consistent with the Sustainability Strategy for 2024 – 2027, as well as working with all relevant internal divisions and engaging with external stakeholders to optimize relevant sustainability outcomes.
This includes a focus on key objectives such as supporting modal shift (freight from road to rail), battery electric locomotives, emissions reduction, skills for the future, First Nations participation, healthy biodiversity, and community engagement frameworks.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to
- Manage and deliver sustainability initiatives being coordinated from the Sustainability team, from business case to implementation to achieve agreed performance metrics and outcomes.
- Manage sustainability program and project contracts to agreed performance standards, assist with the procurement of external consultants and the management of project and contract finances and variations.
- Proactively champion sustainability programs and initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
- Potentially represent National Intermodal in a range of external forums on these matters, when/if required.
- Prepare and provide input into the preparation of reports and communication materials on a range of sustainability issues, including National Intermodal’s first Annual Sustainability Report
- Work closely with relevant parts of the business (delivery, procurement, finance, legal, communications) to provide advice and technical assistance to help drive the overall Sustainability Strategy and ensure National Intermodal realises its objectives, including the achievement of agreed performance metrics that support positive environmental, economic and social outcomes.
- Investigating and keeping across best practice in areas of relevance to National Intermodal’s sustainability priorities to suggest improvements and/or new initiatives for consideration.
About you
- At least 6 - 8 years of relevant experience within sustainability, including at least 3+ years in leadership /management roles.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or knowledge of the operational and strategic requirements for successful delivery of sustainability programs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project delivery to time, budget and required outcomes with minimal supervision.
- Track record in critical-thinking, reasoned compromise and sound judgement when pursuing organisational objectives.
- Strong ability to communicate clearly and simply, especially when delivering technical/scientific information.
