As a member of the Chief Technology Office (CTO), you will contribute to all aspects of the technology products and services we deliver, from technical strategy and design to coding to deployment to operation. The CTO team provides the platform capabilities such as Private/Public cloud host, CI/CD and Observability tooling that is leveraged across all Business Unit Platforms within the Bank to deliver industry-leading software including: CommBank App, Netbank, CommSec, CommBiz and Commbank.com.au..

The Observability team are responsible for the end-to-end ownership and adoption of enterprise scale Observability solutions and industry best practices. You will be working closely with our platform and software engineering colleagues to embed telemetry and observability solutions into our standard operating environments.

Are experienced with the full software development lifecycle and delivery using Agile practices
Can take lead in the technical troubleshooting of complex issues for production and non-production systems
Provide mentoring and technical assistance to other members of the team
Apply and promote industry best practises and patterns
Ensure that products meet SLOs in addition to business requirements including a focus on non-functional aspects such as security, reliability, performance, maintainability, scalability and usability
Take accountability for the assimilation of products into broader ecosystems, concentrating on all aspects of the stack including hardware, networking, data handling and the flow through to application and integration points
Take the lead in work initiatives that includes estimation, design, installation, configuration, integration and productionising of system components
Have a Devops and growth mindset with a desire to learn and share knowledge
Drive continuous improvement for the system and team processes including using endorsed technologies to reduce human effort, drive outcome consistency, and reduce cycle time through automation
Are comfortable communicating and collaborating - willing to coach and teach others
Can Influence and guide stakeholders in the definition & documentation of requirements
Tech Skills
Advanced understanding of the monitoring and observability enterprise ecosystem
Strong technical experience (5+ years) working with monitoring tooling, specifically Microsoft SCOM
Experience working with private cloud and public cloud architecture(s) and application deployments
Proficient using version control systems (Git) and CI/CD tools like Octopus Deploy, TeamCity, Jenkins and GitHub actions
Solid hands-on experience and knowledge of SDLC & operating in an ITIL environment
Experience in a centre of excellence model enabling best-practise in a federated operating model at scale
Desirable:
Hands on experience using other monitoring tooling and technologies such as AppDynamics, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry and fluentbit
Exposure across a broad range of concepts and technologies that includes .NET & Java programming languages, mobile native development, windows and linux operating systems, automation, scripting languages (e.g. Python), networking concepts, monolith and modern application architectures including microservices
Tertiary qualifications in IT or Computer Science or equivalent certification
Exposure and or knowledge with Observability-as-code / monitoring-as-code implementations
Testing automation
SRE practises
Strong influence, communication and presentation skills, ability to liaise with technical/non-technical stakeholders
