The opportunity

We are seeking a talented Senior Technical Officer to support the Battlespace Communication System (BCS) team, helping progress the enhancement, integration, test and verification of the rugged, deployable, communication system developed by Boeing. Responsibilities:

  • Support a team of Technical Officers to manage and deploy the equipment and facilities for the System Integration Facility (SIF).
  • Maintain the SIF by performing software updates, troubleshooting faulty equipment, and seek to understand the cause for degraded performance in a complex system.
  • Collaborate with engineers/developers to assist in the development of leading-edge defence communications technology.
  • Collaborate with the Execution Leads on the BCS team to identify objectives of the Mission System Integration and Test Events (MSITEs).
  • Support planning and organization of facilities and resources for MSITEs.
  • Support deployment and set up of equipment in preparation of MSITEs.
  • Work with the BCS team to maintain OpSec and SIF specification.
  • Contribute to systems development with unique operational and technical insights.
  • Drive a strong continuous improvement mindset.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential:

  • Understanding of the Australian Defence Force, including but not limited to the Defence Organisational Structure, Defence Project Management and Defence Equipment Management.
  • Understanding of Defence Communication Equipment Management (CCI and COMSEC).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with electronics development environments, networking infrastructure, or communication technology will be highly regarded.
  • Must be willing to travel and work in and around Brisbane. Main work locations will be Brisbane CBD and Wacol, with MSITEs conducted at defence facilities in the SEQ region.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of integrated telecommunications networks.
  • Leadership skills and ability to work effectively within a group environment and with people across all organisational levels.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering review and configuration management processes using a PLM tool will be highly regarded.
  • Safety management experience supporting field activities, contributing to Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) or Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) will be highly regarded.
