Upper Hunter Youth Services, located in Muswellbrook NSW, is a community based organisation funded by the Department of Communities and Justice. We are dedicated to empowering young people by providing them with the support and opportunities they need to thrive. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Youth Worker to join our dynamic team and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our young people.
Job Summary:
As a Senior Youth Worker, you will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and overseeing youth programs in our Youth Programs Centre, that promote the well-being, education, and social development of young people. You will work closely with a team of Youth Workers and community partners to create a safe and supportive environment where youth can achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Youth Engagement and Support:
- Supervise and interact with our young people attending the Youth Programs Centre and encourage them to take responsibility for and participate in Youth Program Centre activities.
- Build trusting relationships with our youth, providing guidance and offering support with educational, social, and personal challenges.
- Ensure Youth Program Centre services are provided on the basis of equity.
- Program Development and Management:
- Develop and facilitate evidence and skill based programs and activities tailored to the needs and interests of young people.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as necessary to ensure goals are met.
- Co-ordinator events in conjunction with other staff members.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and support our team of casual Youth Workers.
- Preparation of rosters and facilitate team meetings.
- Ensure good communication with team members and establish and maintain effective workplace relationships.
- Community Collaboration:
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with schools, community organisations, and other stakeholders.
- Advocate for youth needs and represent the organisation at relevant meetings and events.
- Deliver programs in local schools relevant to service specifications.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Certificate IV in Youth Work or Community Services and/or relevant experience.
- First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain
- Food Safety Supervisors Certificate, or willingness to obtain
- Identify and Report Children and Young People at Risk, or willingness to obtain.
- Current Driver’s Licence – Class C Required.
- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check
- Skills and Competencies:
- Sound knowledge and understanding of issues confronting young people, particularly in the Muswellbrook, Upper Hunter and Singleton areas.
- Ability to work effectively with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
- Ability to work with individuals and groups in a holistic and flexible manner.
- Ability to develop and implement evidence and skill based programs.
- Ability to supervise a small team including preparation of rosters and running team meetings.
- High level of interpersonal skills relating to effective communications, attention to detail and the ability to inspire others and contribute to a positive team culture.
- Ability to co-ordinate events.
- Able to work flexible hours
- Understanding and commitment to Work, Health and Safety principles and guidelines.
