AEMO’s System Design division is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation. The rapid transition to renewable energy generation and electrification of many sectors (transport, industry etc) has seen sharp rises in proposed transmission connection projects.
Victorian Network Services & Delivery is a Department within AEMO’s System Design Division with the key objective to delivery Victorian electricity transmission projects in the long-term interests of consumers. Critical to the achievement of this objective is program management to support the development and implementation of infrastructure projects to meet those needs (including procurement processes and contract management).
As a member of the VNI West Engineering Team, the role works closely with key stakeholders, including the VNI West Procurement and Commercial teams and AEMO's planning and infrastructure departments. The role is pivotal in helping the team by taking a lead on the engineering activities during the delivery partner procurement process, as well as having input into the wider engineering design and early works.
About the role
This role will work alongside both the internal and consultant Engineering and Delivery teams in the development of the VNIW West project to deliver AEMO’s green energy transition goals.
What you will be doing
- Lead the engineering activities associated with the contractor engagement strategy.
- Function as a package engineer in the delivery partner procurement process, including assessing and evaluating design and construction tenders.
- Provide expert technical oversight of areas of the design relevant to your expertise. Civil or structural disciplines are preferred, however transmission, primary and secondary engineers will also be considered.
- Support the VNI West engineering team to meet the targets with respect to the project's, technical design of the transmission line, terminal station, and system improvements, focusing on the civil and structural design.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering tasks align with project and program goals.
- Be involved in the Environmental Effects Statement process ensuring EES process is aligned to the delivery approach.
- Occasionally participate in external stakeholder and project community events as a technical subject matter expert and assist the wider project team.
What you will bring to the role
- Construction industry or delivery contractor experience will be highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of electricity industry technical design standards, principles, and procedures including those related to Health and Safety.
- Understanding and knowledge of physical construction, operation, and maintenance practices associated with HV electrical infrastructure.
- Understanding and knowledge of equipment and construction contracting arrangements, and how they relate to engineering scope and responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving capability.
