Job description

  • Draw on your real-life experience to support families & carers in your community
  • Be part of the reformed Mental Health and Wellbeing system in Victoria
  • Not for profit, values driven, generous salary packaging

Wellways is committed to reconciliation, lived experience and inclusivity. We strongly encourage and warmly welcome people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, people with a lived experience of mental health and disability and people who identify as LGBTIQA+ to apply. Even if you only meet some of the criteria, we’d love to hear from you.

About this Program

A key recommendation from the Royal Commission emphasised the crucial role of families and carers in not only caring for their loved ones, but also in the overall functioning and sustainability of the mental health system.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect (MHWBC) will form a vital component of the integrated services provided in the reformed Mental Health and Wellbeing system in Victoria.

Services will be provided primarily by a team of individuals with personal experience as carers, and will offer support to families, carers, kin, and supporters of individuals facing mental health challenges, psychological distress, mental illness, or substance use concerns.

About the opportunity

This is an opportunity for you to join a purpose and values driven team to instil hope in people in the community through positive self-disclosure and positive role modelling and offer practical ways of overcoming day-to-day barriers and by challenging each other to try new things.

As our new Peer Service and Wellbeing Navigator, your role will see you engaging and partnering with the people in your community, including hard-to-reach cohorts, to ensure equitable access for all people in the community to local services. Drawing on your real-life experience, coupled with skills learned through education and training, you’ll be representing and supporting people impacted by mental health challenges, psychological distress and substance use or addiction.

This is a role that will provide you with a high level of flexibility in terms of your scheduled working hours and can also convert to being a full-time role if that is your preference.

  • Certificate IV/Diploma in Mental Health, AOD or tertiary qualification in social science or 1+ year relevant work
  • Be comfortable to share personal experiences with carers program consumers within a safe and supported way
