About Us
The Monash Health Pathology Service operates under the brand name of Monash Pathology and is an integral part of Monash Health. It is one of the largest providers of Pathology services in the state and currently operates 5 laboratories. The largest of these is located at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, with additional facilities being located at the Dandenong, Moorabbin, Casey and Wonthaggi Hospitals. There are currently 19 collection centres based within the hospital sites and community settings. Services are provided to the Public and Private sectors, and other laboratory services.
About the Role
This is a key role in the Pathology service at the Dandenong Laboratory. Working closely with the Pathology leadership team, you will lead by example, being primarily accountable for ensuring that the team is appropriately resourced to perform its functions effectively. Your responsibilities will be varied and will include:
- Managing the laboratory operations on a day-to-day basis;
- Guiding, training and educating laboratory staff to ensure they are appropriately skilled to perform their job roles to a high standard;
- Taking a lead role in setting performance standards for the team and reviewing performance on a regular basis;
- Ensuring that all tests are performed correctly and within specified turnaround timeframes;
- Investigating and resolving technical difficulties when they occur; and
- Communicating/escalating to Pathology management any difficulties, concerns or errors identified.
You hold a degree in Science, Applied Science (MLS) or a recognised equivalent and have extensive relevant laboratory experience in either Haematology, Biochemistry or general Pathology Laboratory testing. With demonstrated management skills, you have previously lead and managed a team successfully and you have superior technical prowess and problem solving ability. Relevant postgraduate qualifications (or working towards) will be highly regarded.

Selection Criteria Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Laboratory Medicine) or recognised equivalent
Possession of appropriate postgraduate qualifications is desirable
Extensive experience in a multi-disciplinary laboratory or one of the following: Haematology, Blood Bank or Biochemistry
Proven ability to manage a NATA accredited laboratory and maintain NATA accreditation
Demonstrated resource and personal management skills
