Job description

On any given day at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, we’re reimagining ways to create magical viewing experiences for the world’s most beloved stories while also transforming Disney’s media business for the future. Whether that’s evolving our streaming and digital products in new and immersive ways, powering worldwide advertising and distribution to improve flexibility and efficiency, or delivering Disney’s unmatched entertainment and sports content, every day is a moment to make a difference to partners and to hundreds of millions of people around the world!

A few reasons why we think you’d love working for Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology

  • Building the future of Disney’s media business: DE&E Technologists are designing and building the infrastructure that will power Disney’s media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.

  • Reach & Scale: The products and platforms this group builds and operates delight millions of consumers every minute of every day – from Disney+ and Hulu, to ABC News and Entertainment, to ESPN and ESPN+, and much more.

  • Innovation: We develop and implement groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms and enhance how audiences experience sports, entertainment & news.

Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and re-purposing technology across different business and distribution channels – including streaming, linear, and theatrical – so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.

The Media Processing & Distribution team is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to the development and enhancement of CI/CD workflows, emphasizing scalability, dependability, and performance. This role calls for experience in Build, Release, and Deployment technologies, which can include Jenkins, GitHub, Ansible, and others. Additionally, knowledge and experience working within cloud-based environments, including AWS, is required. Working closely with development teams, you will actively participate and lead efforts to identify needs and define requirements, apply them to automate build workflows, implement release deployments, and gain broad-reaching knowledge of the systems needed to deliver Disney’s streaming solutions.

You will engage in every phase of the software development process, from conceptualization to deployment and advocate for continuous innovation in features and functionalities.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement robust and scalable automated build environments.

  • Apply AWS cloud services to build and sustain reliable infrastructure, catering to high-availability systems demands.

  • Bring new insights and technologies to the team to better support systems across the organization.

  • Identify coverage gaps and work with project managers to plan roadmaps and priorities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

  • 3+ years of experience working with CI/CD technologies, with an understanding of CI/CD concepts.

  • Proficiency with supporting data frameworks and building cloud-based solutions, primarily using AWS.

  • Experience with technologies including Jenkins, Kubernetes, Rancher, AWS, GitHub, and Datadog

  • Eagerness to solve new challenges and juggle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting.
