The Opportunity
Working alongside some of the most creative and respected Hotel and Hospitality names in the industry, the Sous Chef - Banquets & Catering role forms part of our Kitchen leadership team that is ideas driven, ever evolving and guest experience focused.
You will report to and work alongside our Head Chef.
TheSous Chef - Banquets & Cateringrole will ask you to actively participate in delivering the overall guest experience through banquets and catering, requiring the tenacity and focus to listen to your team and our guests to always better the delivery of the Q signature service.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Prepare and present buffet, banquet and formal function menu items ensuring a high standard of guest satisfaction.
- Management and delegation of duties & responsibilities to kitchen employees to ensure service demands are met.
- Assist the Head Chef with menu preparation, creation and execution, ensuring adequate supplies are available.
- Use your creativity and novelty to bring innovation to our team.
- Exercise your understanding of effective ordering through sound stock, cost and inventory controls.
- Complying with HACCP regulations to ensure the hygienic and safe preparation of food.
- Assist Head Chef in training kitchen talent to maximize service levels and efficiencies according to Q Station standards.
- Liaise with front line team members regarding service times, dietary requirements, special menu requests and any relevant changes.

Why you should apply
You have;
- Formal qualification in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III or above).
- A love for great food, with a passion to create food moments that strike curiosity and delight all the senses.
- Proven catering experience in a Jr Sous Chef or Sous Chef role in a high-volume venue or multi-site venues - hotel experience is advantageous.
- Proven leadership experience and demonstrated team building focus.
- Professional and personable, with excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Pre-equipped sound decision making and problem-solving skills, especially under pressure.
- Physicality to support movement across a large hotel site.
- Desire to take on challenges and exert a high level of creativity.
- Ability to multi-task and manage both operational and administrative workload (with minimal time behind a desk).
- A high attention to detail with exemplary cleaning and service standards.
- Maintain current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
- Maintain a current driver's license. The ability to drive a manual vehicle is advantageous!
- Maintain a current First Aid certificate is advantageous.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
