Special Counsel - Private ClientCommercial & Private Client | Brisbane MetropolitanClosing date: 30/06/2024Special Counsel – Private ClientWe are looking for an experienced lawyer to join CGW's commercial and Private Client team to provide clients with key estate planning, self-managed superannuation, asset protection, structuring and succession planning advice as well as broader commercial solutions.The Role:The ideal candidate will have a passion for estate planning and succession planning. Experience in succession with structures such as family trusts and self-managed superannuation funds is essential as well as the ability to better understand each of their clients, their families, and their businesses to provide practical commercially viable solutions. The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Providing strategic guidance on asset protection and succession matters for high-net-worth individual clients, both from an estate planning and business perspective
- Dealing with businesses and structures such as family trusts and SMSFs as part of succession and estate planning
- Handling complex asset protection matters, including setting up and maintain various asset structures (e.g. testamentary trusts, family trusts, SMSFs)
- Planning and drafting of Wills
- Handling general and Enduring Powers of Attorney
- Managing tax issues in estate planning
- Minimum 5+ years PAE in a highly regarded firm
- Planning and succession planning matters
- Front-end exposure to drafting wills, testamentary trusts and enduring Powers of Attorney trust deed variations and binding death benefit nominations
- Experience in dealing with businesses and structures such as family trusts and SMSFs as part of succession planning
- Ability to provide strategic and commercially focused legal advice
- Proven capability of mentoring other team members
- Pragmatic, outcome-focused approach
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing time frames effectively
- General commercial legal experience would be an advantage
