You will identify, assess, recommend controls and advise on occupational hygiene, health & safety matters in the workplace that potentially impact human health from environmental and work-related sources.This position will be working across BMA operations in Queensland and reporting to the Site HSE Superintendent .In this role you will:
- Provide specialist advice to line management on key occupational hygiene impacts and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and assess occupational hygiene hazards including dust, diesel particulates, organic vapours, noise, gases, thermal stress, asbestos, vibration, biological and radiation along with ongoing audits and verification activities.
- Oversee the occupational hygiene monitoring program as per the Hygiene Management Plan inclusive of exceedance re-sampling, real-time monitoring equipment for control effectiveness and campaign programs as required.
- Manage unexpected hygiene events including hazard assessment and recommendation of immediate corrective actions to prevent exposure
- Ensure all contract partners are aware of occupational hygiene processes and requirements
- Drive compliance and continuous improvement of BMA respiratory protection, as the nominated RPE Administrator, and hearing conservation programs through fit testing, in-field PPE verifications and compliance reporting
- Manage Cority database to ensure quality of monitoring data, accurate reporting of results to stakeholders, management of occupational hygiene equipment calibrations and enrolment of workers into fit testing programs.
- Comply to and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively
- Degree qualification in Occupational Hygiene, Health Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or similar.
- High level of technical and practical skills or ability to acquire necessary skills in Occupational Hygiene
- Strong understanding of Occupational Hygiene risks with previous experience in coal mining being highly regarded
- Previous experience with Cority (or Medgate) is desirable
- Full Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) membership is desirable
- Proven commitment and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm's way.

- Working knowledge QLD mining health and safety legislation is required.
