The diversity of skills, life experiences and perspectives within our team enhances our way of working and our ability to achieve success together.About the roleFinding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.We are looking for a Major Hazard Operational specialist who will be accountable for supporting our Assets to manage Major Hazard risks (Functional Safety).This newly created role will specialize in supporting the implementation of standards and processes that provide the management of Major Hazards (Functional Safety) across a diverse range of Assets - Fixed Plant and Heavy Mobile assets within Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Pilbara operations.In addition, this role will be responsible to:
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert to implement and assure Major Hazard standards (Functional Safety), systems and processes
  • Ensure the appropriate systems and processes are in place, maintained and are having an impact in order to manage Major Hazards
  • Coach end users on the requirements within the standards and how to meet these requirements
  • Facilitate collaboration, feedback and drive continuous improvement to achieve the right outcomes for the site
  • Report on performance and in partnership with site lead on the development of action plans
  • Support site leaders in developing and participating in effective first level of assurance programs (audits and assessments)
  • Champion incident reporting guidelines, promote investigation methods which facilitate learning outcomes including impactful actions and assist in effective management of change – all with the purpose of driving improvement and preventing recurrences
What you will bring
  • Natural communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build authentic and impactful relationships with a diverse range of leaders and site teams
  • Drive meaningful change across multiple stakeholder groups through influence and genuine connection
  • Have an interest in actively listening, understanding, educating and upskilling across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into operational outcomes which develop stakeholder knowledge whilst promoting growth in safety maturity
  • Be proactive and self-motivated with the curiosity, courage and care to drive meaningful progress
  • Current manual driver license
It will be advantageous to have
  • Practical experience within the Mining/Oil and Gas/ Petroleum Industry in a site operational or technical role
  • Engineering qualification applied in an Operational environment (BEng in Chemical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Control System or Electrical Engineering
  • Fixed Plant control systems experience

At the West Angelas hub there are state-of-the-art power generation and refueling facilities.
