STAFF SPECIALIST – ANAESTHETIST | BASED IN SOUTH TASMANIA

Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist - Anaesthetist to join their department.

The Position:

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for Staff Specialist - Anaesthetist vacancy.

Applicants will be expected to have a strong clinical background, in addition to experience in research, teaching, quality assurance and administration/management in a public hospital.

Focus of Duties:

The Staff Specialist Anaesthetist will:

  • Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to patients and their families.
  • Actively pursue performance improvements in Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Services by involvement in clinical support roles.
  • Actively pursue improved outcomes for patients by participating in teaching and research relevant to anaesthesia.

The Hospital:

It’s the second oldest hospital in Australia and the largest hospital in Tasmania. The Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania and is the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School.  The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region.

It provides acute, sub-acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services to a population of about 250,000 people in the southern region.

Also, the hospital provides a comprehensive range of general and specialty medical and surgical services including many state-wide services such as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, extensive burns treatment, hyperbaric medicine, neonatal and paediatric intensive care and high risk obstetrics.

The Emergency Department opened in March 2007. The department includes an assessment and planning and a short stay observation unit. ED has approximately 60,000 presentations per year.

Department of Anaesthesia

The Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine is a high-quality specialist teaching department with significant research activity.  They participate in multi-centre research trials and encourage local research. They have strong links with University of Tasmania Faculty of Health Science and the Menzies Research centre.

The Department provides a comprehensive range of general and specialist clinical anaesthesia services including cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and paediatric surgery specialities. Anaesthesia services are also provided for the hospitals Acute Pain Service, Day Procedure Unit and Endoscopy, and to the Medical Imaging Department including Angiography, CT/MRI and PET scan. We also provide a Perioperative Medicine service.

It is also close to many of southern Tasmania's best travel experiences, from historic Port Arthur and the rugged Tasman Peninsula to Bruny Island, the Huon and Derwent Valleys and Mount Field National Park.
