About The Opportunity
Serve as Obstetrics Head of Department at Campbelltown maternity service. This is a Permanent Full Time role for a Staff Specialist and will also include a Temporary 5 year appointment as the Head of Department. The Head of Department role may become permanent for a successful candidate.

Review and monitor women attending obstetric outpatient services receive a consistent woman centred quality service, across Antenatal clinics, Feto-Maternal Assessment Unit & Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit.

  • Provide clinical governance & obstetric leadership for Birthing unit policy and procedure development
  • Active surveillance of obstetric KPIs including maternal & perinatal morbidity and mortality
  • Review and monitor postpartum care of women in the hospital and via the midwifery-support programme at home following early discharge
  • Develop and expand models of care to meet the needs of women, including continuity of care high risk and low-risk midwifery models, as well as GPSC
  • Focus on improving obstetric outcomes for vulnerable women - including Aboriginal, CALD, migrant and refugee groups, and women with identified psycho-social vulnerabilities.
  • Demonstrate ongoing commitment to improving obstetric indicators - ACHS, WHA, HACs.

What You'll be Doing
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a SWSLHD facility under your care. This care will be provided within the clinical privileges granted by the CE on the advice of the SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

The hospital is a dynamic, diverse and collaborative with all sectors of the hospital working together to provide to superior patient care. Whilst being the major hospital for the MacArthur area, the hospital has not lost its sense of community and regional support.

Located close to the CBD and public transport, Campbelltown Hospital is largely becoming one of South West Sydney’s most important medical precincts with a range of services including cardiology, maternity, palliative care, respiratory medicine, emergency medicine and aged-care services. The hospital features both Mental Health and Cancer facilities which offer patients exceptional care and continued support.

The hospital is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade, boasting the state of the art equipment and amenities to help serve the community. Inside of this redevelopment comes a focus on training and upskilling throughout the hospital with an emphasis on encouraging staff to pursue learning and development opportunities.

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.

  1. Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Medical Indemnity Coverage (Levels 2 to 5)
  2. Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice
  3. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
  4. Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff
  5. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/ continuing professional development
  6. Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of a public health organisation, including the provision of services to the local community, effective utilisation of resources, and preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at an LHD level
  7. Preparedness to participate in a hospital, service or LHD on-call roster
  8. Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team
