Brunette Downs isn't just another property; it's at the heart of AACo and a huge part of our history! Situated 350km northeast of the nearest town, Tennant Creek, the property comprises of mostly open downs country and is involved in the breeding and backgrounding of our Mitchell Composite and Wagyu F1 cattle. As the Station Manager, you will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the property and staff, whilst ensuring all operations enhance business performance and support the long-term interests of AACo.
What you'll do:

  • Develop and manage comprehensive business plans, budgets, and production schedules, with a focus on employment arrangements and injury prevention procedures.
  • Provide expertise in herd management and ensure optimal environmental conditions for livestock at the Brunette Downs station.
  • Engage with external customers to enhance on-site experiences, oversee commodities, cattle management systems, and reporting.
  • Recognise Brunette Downs' significance in AACo's marketing strategy and share its historical importance with visitors.
  • Proactively measure and manage key business drivers to optimise productivity, profitability, quality, and compliance.
  • Lead by example, adhering to AACo Values and Behaviours, emphasising safety in all activities.
  • Monitor and ensure the welfare and feeding progress of cattle.
  • Prepare budgets and report operational and capital expenditures, managing weekly and monthly performance reporting.
  • Identify, design, and recommend capital works projects aligned with strategic goals.
  • Oversee cost-effective maintenance programs, measured by key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with local suppliers, regulatory authorities, vets, and communities.
  • Lead and manage division activities, set performance targets, and provide performance management for direct reports.
  • Guide, coordinate, and contribute to business case projects using a value-added approach.
  • Manage environmental initiatives in alignment with support from the Sustainability & Environment team.
Experience and skills you'll have:
  • At least 5 years of big-scale enterprise management.
  • A knack for leading diverse teams of 30 or more.
  • Knowledge of CattleCare Quality Assurance Program
  • Knowledge of market specifications and ability to draft cattle according to specifications
  • Strong ability to organise/prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, whilst working under pressure
  • Knowledge of contemporary animal husbandry techniques
  • Relevant licences' appropriate for role
  • Strong commercial and business acumen including intermediate level of computer skills
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with a focus on customer engagement
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving agility
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of trends
  • Prioritising execution alongside strategic thinking when planning
  • An impressive track record working with senior stakeholders
  • Considerable skills in cattle herd, pasture, and water management
  • Experience in major capital development programs within Agriculture
  • A degree in agricultural business or something equally impressive
