THE ROLE:Austrade is seeking to fill a vacancy at the APS6 level in the Strategic Policy team within the Government and Policy Division. You will need to hold (or be able to hold) a valid Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance and must be located in Canberra or Sydney. Applicants with Baseline clearance are encouraged to also apply if willing to hold Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.

You must be adept at working in a fast-paced, diverse and cross-cultural workplace and network to produce tangible and practical outcomes.
The Ministerial and Policy Branch supports and guides Austrade to deliver on Government policies and priorities. We lead Austrade’s contributions in government and ministerial processes, policy and budget strategy, bridging commercial insights and policy and program development.
The Strategic Policy section works across the agency, and with government partners, to coordinate Austrade contributions to Strategic Policy development and engagement on key government priorities. The team also guides the implementation and evaluation of programs supporting whole of government priorities. Additionally, the team leads Austrade’s Budget preparation, including helping shape Austrade’s priorities and New Policy Proposals to deliver outcomes for Australian business.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Using knowledge of government policy agendas and decision-making processes to help influence and support the development of the Government’s trade and investment priorities.
• Contributing to the delivery of high-quality data-driven briefing, analysis and policy advice to the Minister and Austrade Senior Executive.
• Building and maintaining networks to engage regularly with other relevant government departments to ensure Austrade’s position is conveyed in whole-of-government policy initiatives.
• Working closely with the Austrade network on policy, Budget and state and territory issues impacting the agency and Australia’s economic activity.
• Supporting team members to coordinate and develop input into Austrade reports, briefs and government inquiries and submissions.
• Supporting the Austrade Executive in whole-of-government processes and in policy deliberations that impact the business environment and Australia’s international trade, investment, education and visitor economy competitiveness.
