Senior Economist/Senior Policy Officer (Multiple Roles), Economic, Strategy & Productivity                                                                           

  • Employment Type: Ongoing & Temporary up to 12 months (with view to ongoing) 
  • Classification / Grade / Band: Clerk Grade 9/10
  • Remuneration: $120,859 - $133,183; plus Superannuation and Leave Loading
  • Location: Sydney CBD, flexible & hybrid working options available

Role impact & contribution

The Competition and Regulatory Policy & Investment & Evaluation Policy teams are recruiting for Senior Economist/Senior Policy Officer roles. 

As a senior member of the team, here’s what you’ll do:

  • Project delivery: Manage end-to-end project lifecycles, from scoping to risk mitigation. Provide expert advice on emerging issues and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Data-driven insights: Apply your expertise in public policy and economics to analyses data qualitatively and quantitatively. Develop actionable recommendations for reform.
  • High-quality communication: Craft reports, briefings, and presentations that meet Treasury standards. Respond to agency and government requests effectively.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build strong relationships across Treasury, the NSW Government, and key stakeholders. Your insights will inform executive decision-making.
  • Collaboration and mentorship: Lead cross-divisional teams, contribute to broader goals, and guide junior team members in their professional growth.

You will be joining our Economic, Strategy & Productivity Group and will be working within the Markets & Regulation Division (NSW Productivity Commission) or the Centre for Economic Evidence. Read more about your future Group and Division.

What you can bring to the role.

In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW. 

You will be successful in this role if you have: 

  • Knowledge of and/or professional experience in economics, econometrics, statistics, public policy, law, or another relevant field. Relevant tertiary qualifications are highly regarded but not essential if knowledge / experience can otherwise be demonstrated.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing economic frameworks and/or the provision of economic advice and analysis, with particular experience in competition policy, regulatory policy, policy reform, or cost-benefit analysis being highly regarded.
  • The ability to work across diverse policy issues to support economic and/or policy advice, with familiarity and experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Policy development and analysis
    • Economics
    • Econometrics / Forecasting
    • Evaluation
    • Cost-benefit analysis

Eligibility
