Please note as of 1.50pm on Monday, 25 March 2024 the job title as been amended.Thornlie Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Coordinators for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.Student Support Coordinators will assist in the day to day running of a variety Student Support programs and initiatives and should ensure an effective and responsive service for students. Working within a dynamic Student Services team, Student Support Coordinators oversee attendance and engagement processes, as well as community supports, social and emotional learning programs, and 1:1 or small group support for tier 2 students at educational risk.At Thornlie SHS, students fulfil their aspirations working in an environment that emphasises the importance of respectful relationships and the achievement of personal best.As a Perth government school, we are a proud Independent Public Secondary School with more than five decades of experience in providing a successful education to our 1200 Year 7 to 12 students, helping them to identify their aspirations and achieve their personal goals.We value well established educational traditions set by past teachers, parents and students and we are passionate in our desire to use the latest research and learning strategies to prepare our students for the future.   • Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Well developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Well developed research, conceptual and analytical skills and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
  • Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
  • Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services

  • possess a Tertiary qualification in the Social or Behavioural Science area
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
