This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024

Darling Range Sports College (SC) is seeking a dedicated and caring Student Support Coordinator (SSC) to join their friendly team.

The SSC will work collaboratively with the Administrative Team to provide social, emotional and mental health support to our students and families, encouraging positive engagement with their education. The successful applicant will ideally facilitate positive initiatives across the College and coordinate and support targeted interventions strategies and programs. They should be student and relationship focused, innovative and motivated, with strong communication and conflict resolution and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to work within a team and autonomously.

As SSC you will ideally provide guidance across the College in relation to pastoral care and social and emotional learning, crisis management and support the organising and/or facilitating of the College’s intervention programs. The successful applicant will ideally be competent in the provision of up to date and relevant information and possesses the ability to operate in a consistent, professional, courteous, efficient manner at all times.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Well developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Well developed research, conceptual and analytical skills and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
  • Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
  • Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • possess a Tertiary qualification in the Social or Behavioural Science area;
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
