Benalla P-12 College is located in the Rural City of Benalla which is ideally located close to the Victorian snowfields and the major centres of Wangaratta and Shepparton. The town is surrounded by quality wineries and a variety of natural environments, with the Murray River only an hour away. Melbourne is easily reached in two hours along the Hume Freeway and the Melbourne to Wodonga railway line also runs through the city.
Benalla P-12 College was established in January 2013 as a result of the merger of all four government schools in Benalla. The College has a student population of approximately 870. We provide a vibrant teaching and stimulating learning environment that commences with Grade Prep and continues through the secondary years to VCE and VCAL.
Our College structure has 3 separate sites across the town:

SC1. Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing evidence based intervention strategies in Student Wellbeing and engagement and the capacity to implement these in a school setting.
SC2. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team to support students with complex academic, behavioural and wellbeing needs.
SC3. Demonstrated ability to input into the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and strategies relating to engagement and attendance.
SC4. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with staff, students, parents and external providers.
SC5. Ability to build the capacity of others through professional learning activities.
Attendance during school holiday periods is not required for this position.
The Primary Welfare Officer is responsible for overseeing all matters pertaining to student welfare.
This person liaises directly with the Assistant Principal in the first instance, and also liaises closely with the Principal Class Officer responsible for Student Engagement and Wellbeing. The Primary Welfare Officer also works closely with the School Nurse, Integration Coordinator and Year Level Leaders. This person will develop close links with external agencies. The Primary Welfare Officer also works closely with classroom teachers. Integral to this role is an appreciation of the age-specific or developmental needs of early years students, as well as the ability to develop welfare programs and management strategies to cater professionally for these needs.
1. Collaborate with school staff, Student Support Services and support agencies to develop and implement a range of programs and interventions with students and the school community that foster resilience, improve attendance and engagement and respond to identified social, emotional, behavioural and educational needs.
2. Increase awareness, understandings and skills of staff in the school community in the area of Student Wellbeing as outlined in the Framework for Student Support Services in Victorian Government Schools, particularly primary prevention and early intervention.
3. Establish/maintain/strengthen relationships with Student Support Services, school networks, relevant support agencies and community groups with a view to optimising and coordinating service provision to students at risk of disengagement from school.
4. Provide opportunities for parents to share concerns and work collaboratively to address any family issues that may be impacting on the child¿s/children¿s education.
5. Work closely with staff to establish programs that will support individual student¿s needs without impacting on their opportunities for classroom learning particularly in the core curriculum areas of Literacy and Numeracy.
6. Implement Social Skills programs for small groups of students at risk eg. Anti-Bullying, Grief and Loss, Making Friends etc.
