Work Location: Chichester Hub's Cloudbreak Mine
- Fortescue's Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.
Roster: 8D/6R - FIFO ex Perth
Reporting to the Manager Health and Safety, you will be responsible for assisting with the improvement, implementation, and planning of Safety Management Systems and working on continual improvement and effective implementation of project work across a dynamic mining operation.
Consulting with key stakeholders on the development, implementation and improvement of the Health and Safety programs and systems, you will foster strong relationships with our Contracting partners and ensure alignment with Fortescue Health and Safety systems. Your role will also see yourself coach and mentor leaders and peers in safety excellence whilst ensure risk management processes are in place for the monitoring and reduction of health and safety risks.
The HSES Superintendent is key to ensuring services, activities and programs are simple and easy to access for all at our Cloudbreak mine. With minimal impact on Operations, and safe execution of projects, for maximum value.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the Cloudbreak HSES improvement strategy is communicated and planned.
- Hold direct reports to account to ensure that the tasks committed to are done on schedule and at the appropriate quality level.
- Hold direct reports to account to ensure that are fulfilling their customers' needs (within and across departments).
- Coach and mentor employees; develop career plans, identify training needs and development opportunities; and provide employee performance feedback.
- Influence journey towards becoming a Global Safety Leader by modelling personal value for safety, organizational pride, care for others and supporting leaders towards the same.
- Anticipate and proactively resolve potential problems to ensure the safest environment using risk assessment and data analysis.
- Ensure shift handovers are effective in focusing direct reports on the tasks required to deliver our HSES performance improvement.
- Anticipate and resolve barriers to improving operational performance and access to services or programs.
- Propose improvement ideas based on anticipated or recurring problems.
- Achieve area budget.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in a HSES Department and regulated workplace environment where examples of experience have been demonstrated and can be authenticated.
- Leading Teams where development and improvement of key results areas can be demonstrated and authenticated.
- High level communication / interpersonal / facilitation skills
- Delivery of improvement projects where tangible evidence can be provided that illustrates involvement with material improvement.
- Demonstrated achievements in influencing improvements in Safety Culture, Safety leadership maturity and Safety performance.
- Ability to work cohesively with and influence other department managers / stakeholders.
- Exposure and understanding of relevant legislation and regulations - e.g., WHS Act & Regs, OHS
- High level knowledge, understanding and experience of risk assessments and controls.
- Understanding of ISO 45001
- Investigation Methodology (ICAM or similar)
- HSMS auditing processes
- Fatality Risk Management and Prevention, Critical Control framework
- Degree / Diploma in OH&S, or equivalent preferred
- Trade qualification highly valued
- ICAM Lead Investigator preferred
- Lead Auditor Training preferred
- Current, "A" Class Western Australian Drivers Licence or equivalent.
