Job description

Pinjarra Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer to join their dynamic team.The role of the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Officer, is to provide advice to school staff on Work Health and Safety (WHS) issues and liaise with the Principal and WHS committee to implement and manage effective WHS procedures and processes.The role also includes undertaking data analysis and trends related to injuries, incidents and hazards to assist with developing plans to reduce the risk of injury and harm. As a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer, you would contribute to the welfare of students, staff and volunteers by providing first aid as needed and within your level of training, experience, the Department’s provisions on first aid in the workplace and the relevant Work Health and Safety Legislation.The successful applicant should have good project management and organisational skills to effectively manage and evaluate health and Wellbeing programs. The successful applicant will ideally possess good computer literacy and strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to respond to emergency situations and provide advisory action to staff at all levels.Since 1921, Pinjarra SHS has proudly served the community of Pinjarra and its surrounding region. The school provides a blend of traditional and innovative programs designed to prepare students from year 7 – 12 for higher education, vocational training and employment. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Well developed project management skills with the ability to develop, implement and evaluate health and Wellbeing programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of WHS legislation, policy and practices.
  • Relevant knowledge and expertise in First Aid and associated qualifications.
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels and in emergency situations.
  • Well developed computer application skills, including a working knowledge of word processing and development and maintenance of databases and spreadsheets.

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
