Our Telfer operation in Australia is now recruiting for the position of Superintendent- Metallurgy.
Telfer Operations
Located In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, the Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising of both open pit and underground. Telfer is a significant pillar in the WA gold industry, providing employment opportunities and contributing to the community.
The Role
Reporting into the Manager- Ore Treatment the Superintendent- Metallurgy will act to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operational control of Telfer's Metallurgical Operations. The roster for this role will be 8/6 FIFO from Perth, flying on Mondays.
The purpose of this role will be to provide effective leadership and operational direction to Telfer's work teams, ensuring resources, capacity and capability are aligned with work plans.
The direct reports for this role will include: Primary Crushing, Tailings Storage Facility, including heap leach for setting the operating parameters and oversight of assay and Metallurgical Laboratories. You will also work alongside other key departments such as Ore Processing, Geology, Mining and Maintenance.
Other major accountabilities of this role include:
- Setting and monitoring parameters for the metallurgical operation always ensuring compliance with Newmont's Metallurgical standards.
- Management of the WAVE system to ensure EDGE project delivery whilst aligning and implementing strategic plans.
- Participate in site based business planning including budgeting to ensure all Metallurgical plans are aligned with departmental priorities.
- Demonstrate leadership with the highest professional and ethical standards including
supporting continual improvement of operational processes, developing and progressing EDGE projects.
- Identifying and actively developing/coaching key personnel for career development including personnel succession planning, supporting the performance review and management processes.
- Promote a safety-first work culture by ensuring safe systems of work are in place for all activities, ensuring personnel are trained, inducted and competent to perform work.
- Facilitating and coaching of Fatality Risk Management initiatives and workshops
Requirements for the role:
- A relevant qualification in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Extensive industry experience within a Gold processing environment
- Proven frontline leadership experience within large scale fast paced operations
- Current C class drivers licence (Essential)
