About the Role
Reporting the to the Manager Operations, Exploration, the Superintendent Operations is responsible for leading diverse and capable teams in the safe and efficient planning and execution of all exploration field activities in alignment with organizational standards and commitments and regulatory requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- The role is accountable for planning and safely executing all field activities within the defined scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
- Develops plans and schedules for geoscience operations activities, tracks, and measures progress against plans/schedules, implements corrective measures for deviations and effectively communicates these to impacted stakeholders to enable contracts and activities to be completed as per approved plans.
- Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework, and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
- Identifies, engages, and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Assesses the feasibility of data collection sites, supervises the execution of field activities, and carries out workplace inspections of safety and efficiency.
- Verifies compliance to plan, budget, and contract.
- Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems.
- Prioritizes work effort and resources accordingly, track work status and develops contingency plans.
- Creating and sustaining a mature safety culture through engaging, developing, and coaching team members and contractor partners.
- Encouraging innovative thought and driving continuous improvement in exploration operations systems and processes.
- Building strong effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, including external business partners.
- Fostering an engaged, diverse and inclusive culture, where everyone is motivated to achieve their full potential.
About You
- Degree in Geosciences, Engineering, or equivalent experience in Operations related discipline.
- At least 15 years of working experience in project leadership and project management roles in mineral exploration.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, ability to work with multicultural teams and engage and influence a broad range of stakeholders.
- Experience in establishing, leading, and supervising remote exploration work sites.
- Demonstrated strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in English is required.
- Proficiency in project management software required, i.e. MS Project, P6, Wrike, etc.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS will be highly regarded.
