About the role

Our Rail Academy Team are looking for a Support Officer to be based on site in Newport with particular skills in customer service, organization and willingness to be hands-on to join their busy team. The team requires someone to help them continue to run a smooth operation at the Rail Academy.

As the Support Officer, you will be a visitor's first point of contact at the Academy! You will ensure the centre is clean and ready for visitors each day, that all enquiries via phone and email are responded to and enjoy dealing with people.

On a day-to-day basis, you will find yourself:

  • Open and close the centre, set up and pack up of the centre ensuring rooms and meals room are left in a clean and tidy state at the end of each day.
  • Customer service duties including answering phones, taking bookings, and confirming classrooms and administration of the online booking system.
  • Ensure all incoming emails and enquiries are attended to in a prompt and courteous manner, this includes coordinating access to rooms and training areas.
  • Provide exceptional face-to-face and written customer service to users, stakeholders, contractors, and visitors the Rail Academy.

This role is a full time position on a 12-month fixed term contract, paying a salary between $74,580 and $90,558 + superannuation. The opening shift is 7am-3pm and the closing shift is 8am-4pm - you'd be required to have flexibility for both, depending on business requirements.

Your Manager, Vera-Ann Georgiou, has over 15 years' experience in operations and project management to the table. Having worked at the centre for a few years, Vera-Ann possesses a deep understanding of the Victorian rail industry and its key stakeholders who utilize the facility. Vera-Ann is a mentor at heart, passionate about empowering staff, ensuring they have the tools and support to excel in their roles. As a hands-on leader, Vera-Ann leads by example. She is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and jump in to help the team whenever needed. With Vera-Ann's guidance and support, you'll have the opportunity to grow and learn.

About you

You are a proactive individual who excels in dynamic environments, eager to leverage your strong people and organisational skills in a customer-facing position. You thrive on being hands-on, regularly conducting site checks, ensuring adequate supplies, and providing assistance to customers with inquiries. Additionally, you are comfortable handling administrative tasks, including ordering supplies and managing room bookings. Alongside these responsibilities, you embody safety beliefs, values, and attitudes, prioritising the well-being of both customers and colleagues in all aspects of your work.

Let's get technical - what skills and requirements do we expect you to have?

  • Organisational skills - Experience managing to-do lists, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and be able to juggle multiple various tasks simultaneously
  • You are someone we can count on, someone who is dependable and can handle shift work. Being able to open and/or close the centre according to the roster. You also have the flexibility to work on Saturdays as required.
  • Have a track record of effectively sharing administrative duties within a close-knit team environment, and possess strong customer service skills.

From there, an in-person interview at the Rail Academy in Newport will be conducted that will include a short activity where you can showcase your skills and potential, as well as show you the facility you will be working from.

Please note: the successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which include national police checks and misconduct screening.
