About The Role: Casual
As a Support Worker, you will use your experience and understanding of working with people who are experiencing homelessness to offer support and monitor behaviours during Extreme Weather Response (Code Blue). The role will require you to:
- Establish rapport with the client to understand and adequately support their needs.
- Complete administrative tasks including the maintaining of records.
- Use correct crisis intervention strategies to minimise client escalations.
- Understand the appropriate referrals for physical and mental illness crises.
- Be willing to clean a large centre to a professional standard on a daily basis.
- Participate in our code blue/red overnight extreme weather responses.
About you:
You will be an experienced Support Worker who is familiar with the nature of this work, relevant services and referral pathways. You'll be non-judgemental, approachable and empathetic. You will have a strong understanding of issues relating to people who have experienced homelessness and marginalisation, as well as an understanding addiction and mental health issues.
You will also have the following:
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people, from our clients, internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as working within a team environment.
- The ability to handle highly pressurised situations calmly.
- A passion for building strong relationships with those around you.
- An understanding of referral services within the homelessness sector and familiarity of barriers that our clients can face.
Specific Requirements:

You will be required to have:
- Certificate IV in Community Services (or a related field)
- Full unrestricted South Australia Driver’s Licence
- Safe Environments for Children and Young People training
- Working With Children Check
- National Police Check
- Valid First Aid / CPR training
- Ability to work outside of normal office hours may be required
- Use of own vehicle
