Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to provide assistance and care to children with disabilities. As a Support Worker, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and development of children with disabilities in various settings, such as home, school, or community-based programs. You will work closely with families, caregivers, and other professionals to provide personalised support and facilitate the inclusion of children with disabilities in all aspects of their lives.
Responsibilities:
- Assist children with disabilities in their daily activities, including personal care, hygiene, feeding, and mobility.
- Provide emotional support and create a nurturing environment for children, promoting their social and emotional development.
- Implement individualised care plans and behavior support strategies, in collaboration with parents, caregivers, and professionals.
- Support children in participating in recreational activities, educational programs, and therapy sessions, ensuring their engagement and progress.
- Foster independence and encourage the development of life skills, such as communication, self-help, and social interaction.
- Monitor and document children's progress, behaviors, and any changes in their physical or mental health, reporting to the appropriate professionals.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals involved in the child's care to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to support.
- Assist with the coordination of appointments, transportation, and access to community resources for children and their families.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, adhering to health and safety regulations and infection control protocols.
- Provide respite care as needed, offering relief to families and caregivers.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of different disabilities, their characteristics, and appropriate support strategies.
- Understanding of child development principles and the impact of disabilities on development.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic attitude towards children with disabilities and their families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with children and their support network.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organisational
and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to changing needs.
- Flexibility to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation may be necessary depending on the job requirements.
