This is a full-time position based in Great Southern Bank's Head Office located in Brisbane CBD
Your team
You will be joining the Corporate Affairs & Sustainability team. Our job is to lead Great Southern Bank's sustainability program, tell our story, and protect our brand and reputation. We work with teams across the bank to bring our purpose to life through our sustainability program, and we clearly communicate our success in helping Australians achieve home ownership - whether it's to our people, our customers, community partners, industry bodies, government or media.
Your impact and contribution
As the Sustainability Specialist, you will be involved in environmental, social and governance initiatives. Through your work, you will have the opportunity to bring our purpose to life, contribute to social and environmental outcomes, and influence strong corporate governance.
In your role, you will work with the Sustainability Manager and Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability to deliver Great Southern Bank's sustainability program and contribute to sustainability planning and strategy
Your responsibilities
Your role is responsible for supporting the Sustainability Manager to deliver the sustainability program and contribute to sustainability planning and strategy. This involves contributing to a wide range of environmental, social and governance initiatives and relationships internally and externally..
Our sustainability program includes:
• Financial inclusion including an action plan, working group, partnerships and reporting.
• Reconciliation including an action plan, working group, partnerships, events and reporting.
• Community investment including impact measurement framework, partnerships, employee giving program and reporting.
• Climate action including an action plan, working group, science-based targets, partnerships and reporting.
• Climate risk including scenario analysis, risk assessments, stress tests and ongoing risk management.
• Responsible banking including meeting regulatory requirements, investment and lending exclusions, memberships and signatories and reporting aligned to international best practice and Australian legislation.
Examples of how you might contribute:
• Strategy: Support the development and implementation of Great Southern Bank's sustainability strategy and program, tailoring this in response to internal expectations and growing external trends so we remain competitive and sustainable in the future.
• Stewardship: Advocate for, and support the implementation of, social, environmental and governance improvements to our operations, procurement, investments, products and services. Support the development of new proof points of our purpose and sustainability strategy. Identify areas for improvement.
• Relationships: Champion sustainability across internal and external stakeholder engagements, ensuring that opportunities for aligned impact and recognition are realised and risks are managed. Contribute to internal and external working groups and forums.
• Leverage: Leverage of sustainability initiatives to ensure that value is generated through communications, marketing, advocacy and events. Collaborate with the Corporate Affairs and Marketing teams. Represent Great Southern Bank at external events.
• Reporting : Support (and in some instances, lead) sustainability reporting and disclosures aligned to international best practice and Australian legislation and required through our memberships and external commitments.
• Governance: Maintain effective governance processes to ensure Great Southern Bank meets all current and incoming regulation and all its public sustainability commitments. Implement corrective processes across the bank if needed. Support the Sustainability Manager with Board and Executive Committee reporting and papers, managing committees and working groups, preparing presentations and engaging senior leaders. Operate in line with Great Southern Bank policies and procedures and risk appetite.
Your experience
• 5+ years' experience in corporate or consulting environments.
• Proven ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Experience engaging the hearts and minds of stakeholders, and building their capability in sustainability, is desirable.
• Proven ability to deliver projects that meet all objectives, within agreed timeframe and budget.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to prepare documents for Executive, Board and public consumption.
• Demonstrated ability to plan own work and work autonomously with limited supervision.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and learning.
Desirable:
• Experience working within the financial services industry.
• Experience delivering social, environmental and governance initiatives.
• Experience working with, and delivering against, key global and local sustainability frameworks and methodologies e.g UN Global Compact, UN Principles for Responsible Banking, B Corporation, TCFD, Climate Active, RAP and FIAP.
Your qualifications
• Tertiary qualifications in business, sustainability, responsible business, environmental science, natural resource management, social impact or related field is essential.
