ELA owns and operates the Arnhem Space Centre (ASC), a multi-user commercial spaceport in East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, Australia at 12° S. ELA were contracted by NASA to launch Australia’s first commercial rockets to space from our site in June and July 2022. We are heading into the next phase of our development and we have some bold plans for the future where we will be conducting around 50 orbital space launches every year.

Job Description

Role Summary 

ELA is a true scale-up business on our way to being the world’s premier multi-user Commercial Space Launch company. ELA is owner of the Arnhem Space Centre (ASC) a space port south of Nhulunbuy where customers can conduct orbital, sub-orbital launch and testing campaigns for rockets.  

You will: 

• Report to the Head of Engineering as part of ELA's Design Engineering Team. 
• Collaborate with other discipline engineers on the Design Engineering Team to continue development of the Arnhem Space Centre (ASC) and deliver system critical infrastructure. 
• Foster a culture holistic systems and life cycle thinking. 
• Assist the Head of Engineering in Systems Engineering Technical Management activities. 
• Provide suggestions for continuous improvement to Systems Engineering processes at ELA. 
• Maintain engineering documentation libraries and compliance with regulatory and business requirements. 
• Generate and write reports on Systems Engineering efficiency and effectiveness. 
• Manage Engineering Change Control processes. 
• Verify that System Requirements Documents are valid and complete. 
• Interact with system vendors and launch clients alike to assess engineering changes and the impacts on the ASC. 

Qualifications

About You 

You should have: 

• An Honours Degree in Engineering or Science with post-graduate training in Systems Engineering practices. Additional training and skills are always welcome. 
• 2+ years experience in Space or Defence Systems Engineering. 
• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering tools. 
• Hands-on experience with other computer aided engineering tools. (MATLAB, Simulink, ANSYS, SolidWorks, etc.) 
• Technical writing skills. 
• INCOSE Membership 

You should be: 

• Curious to find solutions where others may not think to look. 
• Keen to share your knowledge and expertise and accept the knowledge and expertise of your colleagues. 
• A good communicator able to write appropriately based on your audience. 
• Eager to work in a start-up/scale-up business where you'll be required to take on duties outside your specific title. 
• A good teammate. The Design Engineering Team at ELA has a culture of pitching in for each other. 
• Cooperative. You don’t know the phrase “that’s not my job” and are a real “can-do“ person. You’re fun and casual but very good at what you do. 
• Hardworking and a team player, looking to become part of a vibrant and supportive team. 
• Comfortable engaging with people both internally and externally and will have a strong technical grounding to support hitting the ground running as well as the opportunity for further growth in your career. 
• Fundamentally, you will have a great attitude, strong aptitude and want to fit in with ELA.
