DL Communications is seeking a suitably experienced Systems Engineer/Technical Officer to join our dynamic team in Rockingham, WA or Canberra ACT. The ideal candidate will have a passion for developing and maintaining secure systems to support our Defence customer. The position is available for an initial 12-month contract with the option for further engagement.
The successful candidate will be required to operate autonomously and be self-driven to conduct activities including fault diagnosis, system test, and integration of mechanical and/or electronic systems for defence use. There is also requirement to produce well-articulated and detailed documentation supporting these activities. Throughout the engagement, the successful candidate will be required to provide support to an operational Defence site.
Whilst a candidate’s attitude and capability to learn new skills in a challenging environment such as Defence is important, preference will be given to someone who possesses as many of the following as possible:
- Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with electrical and data interface standards and protocols (including RS232, EIA530, Ethernet, RF modulation).
- Experience in Military Standard electrical component/subsystem selection and procurement.
- Experience with product configuration control and baseline management.
- High degree of familiarity and experience with Electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, vector network analysers, spectrum analysers and network throughput testers
- Experience in working is ESD-Safe Production Environments
- Experience working within a Defence or government industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare and present concise reports, briefings, and instructions.
It is also desirable to have experience with.
- Solid networking understanding, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing and switching, VLAN configuration and firewall policies.
- Experience in administering ICT systems, Windows or Linux
- Experienced with Electronics assembly manufacture and repair including familiarity with.
- IPC-A-610 Acceptability of electronic assemblies
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 Operator requirements and acceptance for cable and harness assemblies.
- IPC-7711/7721 Rework, modification, and repair of electronic assemblies
- IPC-J-STD-001 Requirements for soldered electrical and electronic assemblies.
- Experience in environments using ISO/IEC 15288 Systems and software engineering — System life cycle processes.
It is essential that you have a minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in an Engineering discipline. This position may require out of hours support when required.
Work will largely be performed in our Rockingham office and the adjacent Garden Island Naval base. Some interstate travel may be required. Due to the work on a Defence establishment, an Australian Defence security clearance will be needed, which includes the requirement to hold Australian citizenship. A valid driver’s licence is also a requirement.

Candidates will be required to undergo an Australian National Police Clearance check.
