Retail Technology is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank and Bankwest Retail - from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive simplicity and better banking, an essential component of great customer service underpinning a strong emphasis on software development as a craft and the adoption of industry best engineering practices.
The Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO) team’s vision is to leverage analytics and information to enhance the financial wellbeing of our customers and to provide richer customer experiences. We provide a range of services to our internal customers across all business units of the Group including strategy, architecture, data analytics, MLOPS, engineering and program delivery.
As a System Engineer you will be part of Analytics Products Domain within CDAO. The team is responsible for providing analytics tools and platforms to the Group. You’ll come with a solid AWS background and a keen passion for automation using CloudFormation. We deliver our customers peace of mind every day by helping them protect what they value most. Our passion for placing the customer at the centre of everything we do is driving a transformational shift at CBA.
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
- Have strong Platform Engineering or Platform Management experience.
- Troubleshoot complex deployment and environment issues related to Windows OS in an AWS platform environment.
- Implement system updates into production in accordance with specific production readiness and change management protocol.
- Can analyse systems and applications and provide recommendations for enhancements. As well as contribute to the technical design of system enhancements.
- Comfortably follow release and change processes in the compilation and distribution of software builds and releases to development and test environments, as well as system updates into production.
- Can work effectively in a team environment and with project stakeholders to provide system support.
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team;
- Expertise in designing, building and packaging enterprise applications in Docker containers.
- Experience with foundational AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, CloudFormation, Lambda, S3, Secrets Manager, KMS, IAM services etc.).
- Comfortable creating CloudFormation templates from scratch and identifying opportunities to implement automation where possible.
- Demonstrated experience automating repetitive tasks leveraging Python and PowerShell scripting is essential.
- Strong experience in CI/CD tools (e.g. GitHub, GitHub Actions, Artifactory, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, Jenkins etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to perform deep dive troubleshooting on Windows OS (e.g. Windows based EC2 instances).
- Comfortable creating CloudFormation templates from scratch and identifying opportunities to implement automation where possible.
- Basic understanding of DevOps/SRE Best Practices: Logging, Monitoring, Security.
